CompuHistology Review |
This microscopic anatomy program is authored by Professor Godwin Isitor, Faculty of Medical Sciences, The University of the West Indies. This multimedia package contains one CD-ROM and 2 DVD movies on Veterinary Histology, with comparative notes on Human Histology. The CompuHistology program contains basics of staining theory, cell and organelle biology, microscopic anatomy of general tissue types, and the microscopic anatomy of organs. The images and animation are of superior quality. The program is easy to use and has numerous features that are extremely helpful for both students and teachers of the subject. The images can be printed, if a hardcopy is desired, or imported into a power-point presentation for a lecture presentation. Each section has a quiz mode, which may be taken either in multiple choice or 'true/false' format. The program gives a breakdown of number of correct answers at the end of each quiz. The quality and quantity of questions included for each section of the program is excellent, and examines conceptual understanding of the material being studied. Instructors will find the questions extremely helpful in preparing examination material. The total number of questions contained in this program is more than a thousand. The two DVD movies give a quick overview of the subject, a nice feature not found with other histology programs currently available on the market. The entire CompuHistology is a freestanding program, and does not require a textbook, as the self-contained text is concise and more than adequate to understand the material being presented. Both novices and experts of the subject will find the program extremely helpful in learning/ revisiting the microscopic anatomy of domestic animals.
